Rainy Day Blues

Friday, February 5th, 2010

It has been raining (and freezing) a lot this winter. When the weather is like this, it’s not only bad portrait weather (Who wants their hair all frizzed out because of the weather?), but it’s much easier to stay inside, you know, where it’s warm.

So, with all of this picture-less weather, what’s a girl to do when she just got a new camera?

First, she gets something warm to drink.  Vanilla Carmel Tea, Coffee & creamer, or Apple Cider, it doesn’t matter too much as long as it’s tasty & warm.

Then she slips into her super-cute new rain boots.  Which she loves. A lot.

Then she hunts around the neighborhood and finds some winter details.  Neat seed pods, right?

And, then, hiding behind the winter pods, she finds some surprisingly pink berries.  Seriously, they were that pink.  Haha, I found you, you hint of Spring time!

Finally, she gets very, very cold (and a little wet) and decides it’s time to get home before her ears get so numb they give her a headache.  And snuggles up with a book, and, of course, another warm cup of yumminess.

Rainy weather, I love you. But couldn’t we get a few consecutive days of temperatures over 55?

Dear Green Shoes,

Dear Green Shoes,

Christa told me that she was changing her photography name. She said it’s because no one can spell my name & she admitted it’s especially because she loves green shoes.

And I’m okay with this. I understand that people change their minds. Just a few months ago, she changed from her blogger account to WordPress & now she’s changing from me to you.  She’s even moving from Lubbock to Abilene, Texas.  I guess she’s just at a time in her life for change.

No hard feelings, Green Shoes, I promise.  In fact, I’m telling everyone all about you on my blog & my website so they can still find Christa’s photography.  Because that’s how nice I really am.

Sincerely,

Tellipsis Photography

Dear Tellipsis,

Thank you for your heart-felt wishes.  I appreciate that you’re willing to send others to Christa’s new site.

In fact, because you’ve been so understanding, she & I have agreed to leave your old watermarks & some links to your website & blog.

Also, to celebrate your understanding & the new change, Christa has promised several new uploads about albums, canvases, pricing & more.  Even though you’ve stopped being her photography name, I hope you check back here to keep up to date.

Best Wishes,

Green Shoes

Senior Rep: Applicants!

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Updates & new information can be found on this (very similar) page.

This post maybe a little text-heavier than usual, but it’s all good news! (Well, if you’re a senior). And it’s quite a deal (if I do say so myself!)

I’m currently looking for Seniors in Abilene District schools (and surrounding like Merkel, Trent & Clyde). Being a Senior Rep means that you’ll get a deal on Photography & in exchange, you’ll help promote me at your High School. If you want all the nitty-gritty details, keep reading. If you’ve read below and/or are simply ready to contact me about becoming a Senior Rep, click on the Contact tab above.  Then fill out my Contact Form and use the Subject Line: Senior Rep for {insert Your High School Name here}.

As a very important side note, and this applies to any & all sessions (Senior or otherwise), please feel free to bring your best friend, a parent, even your pet or favorite prop (musical instrument, a hat, an umbrella, a balloon, use your imagination)!  I love anything that makes you more comfortable & at ease in front of the camera – or just makes the session more fun with more of your personality!

For all the info on this “Senior Rep” idea, keep reading.

Senior Rep Opportunity & Details

So what is a Senior Rep?

My Senior Reps get a great deal on some fantastic senior photography & in exchange help promote my work at their High School. I try to make this as easy as possible by providing you 2 purse or backpack-sized albums (they clock in around 5×5 with 20 pages front & back). One is for you & the other I’d suggest you share with your mother, grandmother or other loved one who can’t pass up a chance to talk about you & show you off! Believe me, this is one time when it won’t be embarrassing.

What do you get?

Enough goodies to make you & whoever is paying the bill happy! I know that photography can get expensive & I could give you a list of reasons why, but instead, I’m just going to offer you a chance to bring those costs down. Your investment would be $75.00, to help me cover the cost of getting you those fabulous images along with all the goodies listed below. Go ahead, check it out, I’ll wait here until you’re done.

What’s the catch?

No catch. Except one, sorta. I limit the number of Senior Reps I have per school, so let me know you’re interested early. Use my Contact Form and use the Subject Line: Senior Rep for {insert Your High School Name here}.

Brief Interlude

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Well, as  you know, I shot my first wedding solo last weekend.  It was fantastic!  : )  But scrolling through & editing over 2000 pictures takes a long time… that’s right, you heard me, over 2000 pictures… I’ve gotten it down to around 500 though since I deleted redundant photos, closed eyes & blurs (plus I take at least 5 for each group photo so I have better chances of getting a good one – that means during group photo time, for every 5 I take, only 1 will be a keeper).  And low-light is best friends with motion blur, so they like to show up in images together.

However, I didn’t want to leave my poor little blog empty until I get the editing done, so I wanted to at least put up a little something.  And besides that, I have updates as far as my blog & site are concerned.

First, go check out my regular site(edited)www.greenshoesphoto.com.  My wonderful husband has been helping me update some of it & if you’re interested in viewing and ordering photos from the Loveland wedding, you can enter “Client Galleries” on the first page & follow the instructions to receive an email to let you know when I get some pictures posted.  Of course, if you’re just interested in the blog & not in ordering photos, keep up with this & I’ll be blogging their gorgeous images before *too* long!

Now, for a little image love:

I took that photo for my Photo I Darkroom class for Tech almost 2 years ago.  It’s an image of my uncle’s guitar from another cousin’s wedding. : )  I developed the film & printed it in the darkroom all by myself & then scanned it onto the computer so I can have the digital file forever so I couldn’t loose it!  Hurrah for digital (I loathe developing my own film!).  Anyway, you may also have seen it on my site, but I wanted to briefly add that if you’re interested in purchasing any prints of images, and they don’t have to be from a session of yours with me, do let me know.  I’d love to see this image hanging over someone’s fireplace, or in someone’s studio. Maybe I’ll do it myself when I have a fireplace or a studio!

Information About Booking Sessions

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

I’ve had quite a few calls and emails lately and I thought it would be helpful to those interested if I provided the following information.

If you’d like to book a session with me, but want to know more, the links below should help.

Details This outlines the information about the sessions, i.e. what do you get when you book a session with me & what does it cost you?

My Contract This is my contract which I need signed & dated to begin taking your photos (can be brought with you to the session as long as I receive it at the beginning). Basically, it gets all of the legalize out of the way so we can have an awesome time taking your photos!

To officially book a session, please contact me and we’ll work out dates and times.

I will be posting these items on my website soon, as well, but if you stumble upon this and want to let your friends know, please tell them to hit up my blog. (The forms should be up on my website by next week, it’s just more work to update since I can’t click a button & type anything I want!) Update: Actually, I got them up tonight since my wonderful husband took the time to help me! But, still, don’t be shy to tell your friends to come to my blog!

PS sorry that I’m not posting any lovely photographs, but I should have some to put up within a few days at best or within the week (worst case scenario)!

Clothing Suggestions

Friday, February 27th, 2009

My clients have done a fabulous job of choosing trendy, flattering, & unique clothes (appropriate masculine adjectives can be substituted). : ) However, it has occurred to me, perhaps because of their greatness, that some may not be sure what to wear (or are just curious). If you have a closet full of options but you can’t decide on anything, it doesn’t mean that you have to go to the mall. Here’s a link that will, hopefully, help you with this decision.

What to Wear It is posted by another photography site out of Colorado and though I would add my own commentary to the list (who wouldn’t?), I believe it’s a solid starting point. So I’m going to add a few comments of my own to append this list, well, mostly because I, like most, have my own opinions that I’d like to add.

For example, I love hats & I hope that you love hats & will bring one with you, however, if you’re coordinating your outfit with your hat & are planning to take photos without the hat later, since we’re in Lubbock, it’s likely windy and the hat & wind combo have great potential for mussing (don’t you just love that word?) your hair. So, in this case, please, please bring your hat, but save it for the end of the session instead of the first outfit.

On the other hand, I entirely support the idea of bringing your friend, mother, sister, or whoever else is handy so they can keep an idea on little details (like the wind & hair combo), make you laugh and offer their suggestions. Likewise, I would love for you to bring your puppy, kitty or baby tiger (really, if you have one let me know because I’d love to see it), but please let me know ahead of time so we can choose pet-friendly locations.

One last comment is that I do suggest at least one more “formal” outfit – skirt, prom dress for girls, button up shirt or jacket for guys (and sorry, guys, that the link’s suggestions are less tailored to you. I’m interested in putting together my own personal recommendation list, but with school, work, etc. it’s still on the back burner).

So, I hope this has helped if you were on the verge of panic & maybe saved you and/or your parents a few bucks (so you can buy more prints or announcements from me! wink, wink).
